Injection Molding FAQs

Q.: What do you need to make a quotation?
A.: To make quotation which will be accurate and sufficiently competitive, we need 5 things:
1. Design - Product drawing or 3D model data file or product sample. It will help expedite the process and provide more accurate pricing.
2. Application - How will the part be used? (Describe the part including where and how it is used)
3. Volume - Estimated quantity of the product needed in a period of time (i.e. How many parts are you going to use in a month, quarter or year?) and the idea of how many products in total you are going to make (estimated total sales).
4. Materials - What material the part is to be made from? Specified material or prepared to discuss material requirements
5. Tolerances - What are the dimensional tolerances for the parts? Which the dimensional tolerances will drive number of cavities and can significantly impact tool cost, tool life and unit price.

Q.: How much time do you need to quote?
A.: Normally, the quotation for a mold will be sent within 2 3 days, after we receive all the necessary details.

Q.: How long does it take to build an injection mold?
A.: It depend on product size and complexity of its shape, but generally the production lead time is about 30 - 60 days

Q.: Is it possible without a visit in your company to know whether my mold is being built on schedule?
A.: On clients requests, we will give a detailed mold building schedule and send weekly report. The report may have digital pictures that show the progress of work.

Q.: What is the life expectancy of molds?
A.: Mold life depend the most on the kind of tooling steel used, the precision of mold building and mold maintenance quality during production. Usually plastic injection molds can stand without problem 250,000 shots. The life expectancy can be lengthened or shortened by choosing appropriate steel.
